Lindsay V. Hayes, Ph.D.

Lindsay earned her doctorate from the Pennsylvania State University majoring in Learning, Design, and Technology in the College of Education. Her research is focused on online learning communities with an emphasis in Christian religious spaces.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA she is the granddaughter of a Baptist preacher, and grew up attending Mt. Ararat Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Dr. William H. Curtis.

After graduating from Schenley High School in 2008, Lindsay accepted a full-tuition fellowship to The Pennsylvania State University. After successfully completing internships with Ernst & Young and Google, she graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing from the Smeal College of Business with minors in International Business and International Studies.

Upon graduation, Lindsay joined Teach For America and served as a middle school math teacher in the Baltimore City Public School District. In 2014, she completed a Master’s of Science in Education from The Johns Hopkins University.

Shortly after, she accepted an opportunity to work as an Academic Advisor and returned to Penn State. She began her Ph.D. program in 2015 and graduated in August 2020. Her dissertation research explores how Black millennial Christian women use online spaces to engage in their faith practices.
